New BBQ + new BBQ Book = Experimentation!

Beer Can Chicken

The Rub

Ted Reader's Bone Dust Rub with 13 spices. Doesn't the Colonel only have 11? :)

The Grub

The Tub

I bought a selection but finally decided to go with the Sleeman's Honey Brown Lager. I took a big sip and added a shot of Jack Daniel's.

On the Launch Pad

I didn't even think of taking a picture of the finished product! Do you believe it? I think it was because I wasn't sure how to get the thing off the grill. It was a 3lb bird and took about 50 minutes to cook. There was lots of liquid left in the can (used a Tall Boy). It tasted gooood ...

Either that's a very tiny chicken or your new BBQ is very big...

AND he looks like he was doing a happy dance until he got flamed from behind!

That looks absolutely succulent!!!!! Is that what we're having????

It was a small bird but that's all they had at the store! And it was tender and moist. I always dry out birds. But I don't know what we're having yet, Carmen! We're still in the experimental stage.

I'd like to try out the rotisserie, actually, Carmen, as a comparison to the sitting-on-the-can technique. There's an infrared burner in the back that's supposed to crisp it all up. Mmmm. I think any liquid will do, btw, and next time I go with the can, I'm using root beer instead of wasting the REAL beer! We don't need no drunkin' chickens round here!

It's a medium-large sized BBQ, Skylark, with 4 burners. If I did it again, I'd go for the 3-burner model ... maybe ... :)

Oh yes, please do! We love to be part of the experimentation process!! Julia and I will be talking sewing and you and Jerome can be fine-tuning the Q!

At this point, Carmen, it feels like everything is an experiment since the the way the new Q grills has little resemblance to the way the old 'reliable' did it. One burner was so far gone, I had this huge yellow flame shooting out on the left side and it looked like I was cooking on a camp fire! The new one has nice small blue flames I can't see clearly and I'm always peering in to make sure it's lit.

As for who does the translation, I know it's not Google. How close are they to "Grain fed whole chicken" with, "Nourris au grain poulet entier"? :)
